I have found the easiest way to achieve this is to use nautlius-actions
sudo apt-get install nautilus-actions
nautilus-actions-config
then configure to taste for example:
Label: Add to Playlist
Icon: gtk-add
Path: totem
Parameters: --enqueue %M
Filenames: *.mp3 ;
Appears if selection has mutiple
