installed post-installation script returned error exit status

Running Ubuntu 10.4. Had reinstalled system on a new hard drive. Was
attempting to set up NFS kernel but the install crashed with the
following error:
Setting up nfs-kernel-server (1:1.2.0-4ubuntu4) ...
* Exporting directories for NFS kernel daemon...

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.32-25-generic
Linux image and kernal upgrades failed to properly install during a
routine system update. Now I have to use workarounds to get other
packages to update and the update manager no longer functions
automatically.
