It would appear that I had, in fact, inadvertantly updated gnome-
terminal and libvte using the compiz repo. I 'downgraded' to the one in
the official repo and all seems well. Thanks for the suggestion.

The odd behavior has returned. I tried turning off all the hardware
accelleration, just in case that was the issue, but to no avail. What
else can I check?

It's Dapper, and gnome-terminal is 2.14.2. I'm not sure what the update
was from, but I thought it might be the recent freetype update. I update
pretty regularly; at least once a week.

I applied an update everal days ago, and ever since, gnome-terminal
redraws very slowly. This shows up in output (i.e. - scrolling text) and
while movin the window around.
All other windows redraw normally when I move them around the scree
