I just downloaded the source for the compiz-plugins-default package,
applied Dougs patch and compiled the scale plugin. (I had to install
quite some dependencies to get cmake to stop complaining... ) Basically
- the patch works.. Would be nice with an officially fixed package
though...

I'm having the same problem. But I only noticed it for the last few
upstarts, did never experience it frequently a month ago. I updated a
few packages a couple of days ago, after which I started to notice this

Hmm, I had the issue but the hue slider WAS in the middle... Moving it
to either end (min or max) fixed the problem though, strange!

I have the same problem, VIA chipset. It worked fine before upgrading to
8.04. I am running the 64-bit (AMD) version of 8.04.

After an upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04 the UDMA mode 6 has been activated, previously
hdparm -i only showed
up to UDMA 5 if I recall correctly, but now it shows UDMA 6 and it is checked.
The system feels more responsive
now too..

I have the same problems, but I have two machines, both running 7.10,
the first is AMD the other is Intel.
The problem for me seems to be the hard-drive itself. I have three SAMSUNG
HD161HJ disks and one Maxtor.
No UDMA mode is enabled for any of the samsung disks, independently of which
machine
