I have dell vostro 3500 and added this line to my /etc/Xorg/xorg.conf
Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"
in Section "device"
this solved the issue for me. Theyve changed sth in drivers so this is now
needed to control brightness which is pretty stupid but its good to know t
