I have the exactly same problem here with
philips 17' 1280x1024 and
eizo w2410s 24'
I played around with the Appearance-Editor (gnome-appearance-properties) and
discovered following:
open Appearance-Editor separately on both screens
select Extra effects on main screen (window borders will disapp
