The problem occurred because during upgrade of the python-minimal package, it attempted to copy the '/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages' folder to some other location with the name 'old-site-packages'. The 'old-site-packages' did not exist. It seems that I had a site-packages folder under /usr/lib/py
