It affect me as well.
I have Intel(R) UHD Graphics (CML GT2) and using i915 driver.
Added below lines to grub:
i915.enable_dc=0 intel_idle.max_cstate=2
No luck.
Then changed it to:
i915.enable_dc=0 intel_idle.max_cstate=4
as per some suggestions
Also no luck.

as in my case adding extra option to GRUB didn't help.

@Oibaf (oibaf) - I experienced the same issue on Xubuntu 22.04 too. The very
last available xubuntu 21.10 kernel was fine. I upgraded from fully updated
21.10 to 22.40 and then the problem started.
Not sure what is the latest 21.10 available kernel. Perhaps 5.13.0.1022.23 ?

After choosing the directory I have to select also a picture (even if random
wallpaper selection is enabled). Then the a directory change works fine.
So the bug can be closed.

Xubuntu 21.04 fresh install. I have to keyboard layouts in the system: English
(default) and Polish (secondary).
Previous behaviour was a change to the other layout on a icon click in the
panel.
A plugin comes default with 21.04 doesn't change it. Stays English all the time.

hi all.
i've had the same issue (jaunty xubuntu fresh installation with intel video
card).
it seems like paul's solution:
sudo update-rc.d -f gdm remove
sudo update-rc.d gdm defaults
works perfect.
later after playing with gdm and configuration autologin stopped working again
and this helped anot
same here. my system is a fresh xubuntu jaunty installation. i'm pretty
sure it happened after an update of the package xserver-video-intel.
