Also affected by this bug on Ububtu 17.04. Using my computer as a wifi hotspot I couldn't connect from other devices and the log presented a lot of "inux wpa_supplicant[1385]: handle_probe_req: send failed " messages. The solution presented by Jesse (juderichbourne) on post #1 solved the issue.
