Oh and by the way, my laptop sleeps/resumes fine when I tell it to do so
from the keystroke shortcut or the GUI menu. Closing the *lid* doesn't
work.

Just wanted to report on how hilarious this has been. First I'm told I'm
wrong, then I'm told I'm right, then I'm told it's a dupe and to take a
hike.

When I close the lid on my laptop (Acer Aspire One) it doesn't suspend
-- simply turns off the screen.
I expect this to get closed quickly, as I have zero technical knowledge
and can't tell you what package it was found in.
