Thunderbird requires nscd? That would be the Name Service Cache Daemon?
That makes a lot of sense. :-)
Anyway, that has fixed it for me too. Thanks.

I am also seeing this problem and it is very annoying. To clarify what
others have said, I found that the workaround is:

I found that 'sudo apt-get upgrade' doesn't work as it does not seem to
pick up the http_proxy setting. Further, if I have accidentally tried

I tried running "thunderbird -safe-mode" but I also get a segmentation

For the sake of actually reading emails, I moved .thunderbird to a local
user and it works. I think this is an NFS problem.

I am seeing this with the released version. I have the home directory

possible to find out what changed on your system, to see if there is
something I can try?

I have seen this as well. It seems only to be a problem when you click

Is this serious? I raised this bug a year and a half ago so obviously
it is not now referring to the most recent version of the package. I
am afraid I cannot test this for you now as I am now using CentOS as

If it is the same problem as I saw I know a way of getting round it,
although I'm not entirely clear of the details. Unfortunately (for
you), it involves avoiding the "migrate users" step, which will mean
that your new Ubuntu install will not have all the XP users set up
automatically for you.

I know this isn't specifically a NIS problem, as someone has already
mentioned, but the NIS issue causes auto logins to fail. Johan's hack
appears to fix it for me (thanks, Johan).

Thanks. I managed to install in the end by editing one of the install

migration assistant. If I knew a bit more python I might have looked
at it a bit more but I'm afraid my knowledge extends to putting a # in
front of a few lines.
I still get this with Hardy. I notice that this bug is still marked as
"Undecided" importance. I raised this 6 months ago and it is impossible
for me to install other than by upgrading from Feisty. In my mind, this
issue is 'Critical'.

A workaround for this is to go to:

option can only be reached if the computer is still connected to th
