Update: Previous tests was done without connecting the serial device. Looping
RX to TX is OK.
It freezes when you open /dev/ttyUSB0.

You MUST open /dev/ttyUSB0 , USB side being already plugged BEFORE
plugging the serial device side!!!

I use to get the freeze problem sometimes ago. I use Cutecom.
Now (Kernel 2.6.24-16 Hardy) it seems to be OK.
If you unplugh the device while it is open, you have to leave it unpowered for
at least about 5s else: Could not open /dev/ttyUSB0.
I looks like a hardware problem of reset (Brown out)
