When I try running the identify command on DNG files, I get messages
about PPM16 being deprecated. It looks as if the version of ImageMagick
that is included is not compatible with the version of UFRaw and so is
sending it an incorrect call. A
I have tried out alpha4 and can confirm that it no longer hangs as it
did. I can reach the desktop and use the installed software.

I have tried alpha 4 and it now completes booting so it looks as if this bug
has been fixed.

When I try starting Intrepid Ibex Alpha 2 in VMware Workstation running
under 8.04, everything goes fine until after logging in but the GNOME
desktop fails to appear and it seems to hang. I try disabling floppy and
CD/DVD drives but to no avail.
