in my case the message displayed says ; ( unresolvable problem occoured
while calculating the upgrade the package'unity' is marked for removal
but it is in the removal blacklist) this is followed by the possible
causes of which none apply

ubuntu 11.10 does not start google earth and also not stellarium I don't know
if there are others it will not start I removed and reinstalled them to see if
they would work then and they won't. this is repeatable and many other people
have this same problem.

everything I attempted to download had the same result finally ubuntu
10.10 failed altogether and I removed it from my pc. sorry I am now
