Whereas Ubuntu 8.04 Server Edition (or 6.10, 7.10, 8.04.1 for that
matter), would not install on my Compaq DL 380 G2, Debian 4.0 will.

I'm experiencing this same issue on a Compaq DL380 G2 with a Compaq
SmartArray 5i controller. I'm starting the install with Expert Mode,
Noapic, Noapci options enable.

I'm experiencing the same issue on both a desktop install of 8.04 LTS
and a laptop install of 8.04 LTS (neither are server installs though).
This issue began today ( 3-13-08 ) after downloading both the SSH
security updates and Gnome updates. Since then, I cannot shutdown either
