After upgrading my kernel source and powering off and on my machine the situation has improved. I can now see the speakers on the dropdown menu in the Audio config window. But still no sound. There are many other people with the same issue: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/5455 --

Public bug reported: I'm running Feisty 7.0.4 (64Bit) on AMD64. I have a set of Logitech v20 USB speakers that work fine with the 32Bit version, but are not picked up by aplay or asoundconf on 64Bit. Everything I have read tells me they should work plug-and-play style. If I boot with the x86 dist
