I've been having the same issue since Feisty.
Running Amarok 1.4.9.1 (Using KDE 3.5.10) On Ubuntu Hardy.
I've tried all the mentioned workarounds. The only thing that seems to
work is adding the external drives to my fstab. Still, this is not a
fix.
It would be nice to see some progress with this

This is happening to me as well on Gutsy. It's been working fine for a
few days since the upgrade and suddenly today started segfaulting. At
first I thought it was just my start page causing it (igoogle) but then
it started doing it seemingly at random on startup, segfaulting more
often than not. I
I am also experiencing this issue but none of the workarounds seem to
make any difference. I am forced to use a Totem in the meantime.
