After some research I see this is normal behaviour:

CPU usage spikes to 30% regularly during playback, no PulseAudio involved, just
ALSA
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/368121
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu
Bugs, which i
same behaviour here, without alsa and pulse...
I use MPD for streaming to icecast. When I activate ogg streaming, cpu
peaks 40%, when I use mp3 cpu falls back to 19%. But that is far more
than previous version Ubuntu does.
Before I used 8.10 with a compiled version of mpd 0.14.1 and then cpu
hits
I have the same problems:
When dragging a bookmark folder just a few places the whole desktop
freezes... Can't even drop it.
Except I haven't an Intel integrated graphics card but Nvidia.
So it isn't just only an intel problem... Must I report a new bug?

but it won't start the Ebox deamons. It keeps on saying there is
something wrong with orbit I can't reproduce it, because I installed
ebox by adding the "deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ebox/ubuntu intrepid
main" to
same here on my m65:
