Yes, I have tried "auto" and it didn't worked either but eventually, i got it
solved :
I forgot to add the lines below in my xorg.conf :
Option "VideoOverlay" "on"
Option "OpenGLOverlay" "off"
Option "TexturedVideo" "on"
... which definitely solved the issue.

Yes, same issue with the standard theme. But the problem resolved itself when
installing proprietary ATI drivers.
For now I have serious screen graphical glitches after gnome-system-monitor is
opened. It could be drivers related... don't know for sure.

Icons are ok, but icon's colors are wrong, as if there were applied a
picture negative effect. Look at Firefox icon color for example, it
should be the usual red firefox color icon. Here it's blue. But I think
it is just a symptom, as the whole gnome-system-monitor has serious
refresh problems too.
