I can confirm the above. Document search works occasionally in the
activities overview (I cannot reproduce the conditions), but it doesn't
work for me 99% of the time.
Any hints, or workarounds?

It looks like that there is a problem with the proprietary drivers in

latex, octave, gedit). Makes cifs shares useless for other purposes than

Having the same problem in Ubuntu Karmic (kernel 2.6.31-14-generic).
Many programs (e.g.: gedit, tex, octave) don't work over cifs shares.
It's a very nasty bug for those of us using cifs shares.

I am extensively using kile these days in ubuntu dapper and the same
happens continously to me. A very annoying bug.
I am able to save my work and don't loose data by typing "dcopquit kile"
in a terminal. A crash message appears, but at least the work is saved.

Confirmed with a mac-formatted 5th generation iPod. (It is not possible
to write on it although the device appears mounted with rw permissions).
I think that this an important bug for many people coming from the mac
world...
