I can verify it is a problem in Telepathy on Kubuntu.

I did the exact same thing. Aptitude complained about multiple i386
packages so I had it remove them.

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit, GeForce 9500 GT, AMD Athlon II x4 620.
I have the beta 195.30 Nvidia drive and beta Flash 10.0 r42.
I use the Compiz Icon. Compiz is running under this command:
