Not sure, I followed the description above, from a fresh buntu-gnome
14.04 install and it still works perfectly.
Do have the radon_bl0 brightness control folder? Check by typing in a
terminal: ls /sys/class/backlight/radeon_bl0
If so what happens if you type into the terminal: sudo bash
I just got a brand new Thinkpad E145 and had the same problem after a
new install of ubuntu-gnome 14.04 (BIOS 2.02).
