This is due to deprecated gdesklets being included in the gdesklets-data
package.
StickyNotes 0.1 does not work with Gdesklets-0.35.3.

Please do not make these two package depend on one another. It should
be possible to install gdesklets without gdesklets-data and install
gdesklets manually.

Most of the desklets in gdesklets-data are now deprecated and do not
work due to a change in architecture of the gdesklets core.
The only desklets that work properly and should be included are the ones
located on gdesklet's new website (gdesklets.org).

I am no longer experiencing this bug (at least haven't noticed it
lately). There have been some libgtk updates (one today) as well as gdm
updates recently. On top of that, I am now using the Industrial
(ximian) graphical login theme.

Also note there has been a few updates to gdm as well as libgtk but gdm
still crashes for me. The first time I log out, the themed greeter
disp
