After upgrading to Ubuntu 8.10 alpha 4 I noticed the same behavior.
Touchpad is unusable because of its slowness. My laptop is Dell D620.

1. When I close last edited file in the SPE the title bar still displays its
name.
2. When I try to close empty (unnamed) file SPE asks me about confirmation
(imho not needed).

Positions of window splitters don't save in the workspace. Everytime I
open SPE it restores splitter positions to its defaults. I tried to save
workspace manually, but it doesn't help. I am using SVN version of SPE
(rev 320).

As someone noted above this bug is also present when using creative
xmod. It seems to be some kind of race condition, where maybe two pieces
of code try to change volume to the response of changing volume using
the knob or +/- on the keyboard. This is only my guess. Anyway, bug
still exists in Hard

After upgrading 7.10 to 8.04 USB Audio Device stopped working. In my
case it is Creative Xmod, which worked fine in gutsy. Now asoundconf
list outputs nothing, but lsusb lists Creative device.
