Any updates for this on 16.10?
Can I use the above patches to fix the issue?
Thanks.

I also have this issue, 'do-release-upgrade' states there is no
available upgrades, as 'dasjoe' stated - the changelog page has not been
updated yet.
When are we expecting this to be updated? I thought 7/24 was when we
were to expect the release of 14.04.1.

I haven't used XFCE in a while, I'll have to install it to check this
out in the Heron. I've been using KDE for a long time now, and I
haven't looked at XFCE since...

I noticed people said they were playing freecell when this happened -
which made me curious, because she said freecell was being played on the
machine, and the game was left running overnight. I'm not saying the
game running overnight was the issue, but maybe freecell is?

Disappearing panels
I have a machine with old hardware in it, so I use xubuntu. This is not
my machine, and the person using it reported this issue. Her panel
would sometimes just lose plugins on it, and other times the panel would
disappear completely. It's 7.10 gutsy, and her video card is some
crappy onboard VIA
Don't tell them to pull their fingers out... sheesh, that makes them
want to write code for you for free, huh?
At any rate, I am having this same issue. No PPTP VPN support even
after I install network-manager-pptp. I get the error "No configuration
interface". I am in the process of trying nem
after testing, display compositing is definitely the source of this
problem. tested with it off and on, and when it is off, no problems.
when it's on, the dialog box hangs as it did before.

specifics.

Telecaster72 - i can't use the 'nv' driver - as i recall X wouldn't even
load with that driver. for whatever reason every reboot on this machine
i would have to redo the video setup - with nvidia's official installer
with no window manager running. now i don't have to do that any more...
i'm not
try KDE - i found that it actually runs better than XFCE does on ALL my
systems. from my high-end computer at home to my outdated laptop at
work, XFCE was actually slower to respond (in every aspect...) than KDE.
if it's good enough for linus, it's good enough for me.

Xubuntu works terrible
so i switched to KDE because XFCE was slowing my systems down. i
originally tried it because it was supposed to be for low-end computers,
so i figured it would run like a dream - it hasn't, and KDE has been
much more responsive (especially the password dialog boxes)
so thanks, you can close this
ok thank you. let me know if you would like any more info from me or if
i can test anything. i'd love to get this resolved!

Removed 2 unused cards in question. No change. I started a stopwatch
the exact same time that I hit enter after typing my root password
correctly. It was about 15.5 seconds before the screen was 'undimmed'
and synaptic started loading.

Yes that is correct. It was suggested I remove two pieces of hardware
that I don't use (a PCI netgear wifi card and a tv tuner that is of very
poor quality). This hardware was present in Feisty, and this problem
was not. I will remove the hardware and post back.

i can confirm as well - to some extent.
my work laptop started with 128mb of ram, with 2mb to video. i just

boot a live disc GUI failed. so after it was installed, everything ran
so SLOW! what's depressing is the copy of XP a

does not happen to my 2 machines at work (a laptop and desktop)
first i upgraded fesity to gutsy, it hung. so i wiped it and tried

this is really bothering me, as my systems at work are much less
powerful than my system at home - and the system at home is the one
having the problem!
it seems a clean install is in order, unless someone has a fix or
another solution?

** Description changed:
so i use xubuntu 7.10 (just upgraded from 7.04) and the password dialog
box hangs after you enter your password and hit 'enter'... it takes a
while to authenticate it seems! i checked out GNOME to see if it was
the same and it is not - was no problem in GNOME.

i noticed this as well after upgrading xubuntu 7.04 -> 7.10. i tried
GNOME, and all was well... except it was GNOME. go back to my familiar
XFCE, and the password dialog boxes take forever again!
