thanks, i will do the lsmod.I did have the restricted driver installed
and like I said, everything (!) is working under the old kernel
2.6.24-9. when the update manager switched me to the first 2.6.24-11 and
the network manager got its updates (a few weeks ago) all the problems
started. first wired

i had the following situation under ubuntu 8.10:
kernel 2.6.27-11 wireless works / wired not able to connect to my router
kernel 2.6.27-9 both work
after a recent update / don't know which /
I can boot into the newest kernel 2.6.27-11 a
after a last hal/network-manager update wired network does work again on dell
mini9 / 2.6.27-11
but now wireless is not present anymore..aarrgh

ah, it seems it doesn't like the option in the dhclient.conf:
sudo dhclient
/etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf line 53: no option named nameserver in space dhcp
supersede nameserver 192.

but i did like described, i added the line

well, unfortunately I don't even have the old kernel. I was using wireless and
after deciding that the new kernel seems stable I removed the old one. then I
went home, connected to my wired network and vola nothing. I can't get it
to see my router or get any IP from eth0.
I searched around
it says
nameserver "192.168.0.1" although my router is on 192.168.1.1
my dhclient.conf is empty, meaning everything is commented out.

hi, I'm using a dell netbook (911 first edition) dual boot xp & 8.10.
since I upgraded to the latest kernel delivered automatically through software
update I can no longer connect to my wired connection AT ALL. It's exactly like
described above, ONLY I got a LinkSys Router. Windows can connect, L
well, as we all removed firefox the update manager didn't find anything
to update ;)

i went to synaptic package manager, installed firefox + gnome support and have
now the new version.
it does not bring the error of xulrunner not being compatible to firefox any
more.

i made an bin/tok image of an audio cd using brasero.
i inserted a blank cd-r, closed the automatic burn folder by gnome.
started brasero, chose "burn image"
browsed to the tok-file -> writing starts, error appears, disc gets
ejectedsomething
update: i changed networks (from work: only http and websense active, no access
to online repositories ) to my homenetwork (normal broadband with minimal
firewall) and applied 43 updates to the beta.
now cd/dvd creator works.
the error with the network drive only happens after x amount of time,
