I'm on snapd 2.34.2 with 4.15.0-33 kernel and I'm still running into
this. It takes me on average 3 tries to get my system to boot (I don't
have patience to wait to see if snapd decides to play ball or not)

This is a serious mark against switching to Linux, the mount -t cifs
option is nice for power users, but not for not so much tech-savy users.

On 12.04, same issue and when I try to install foomatic-db using
synaptic, it tells me ubuntu-desktp will be removed, so I'm not sure if
I want to go ahead with that

I'm on 12.04, fully up to date, and the issue still occurs, so where's the
released fix?
Initially when I first ran into the issue I thought it was the Nvidia drivers
so I've tried all four versions available through 'Additional drivers'

This is exactly why I stopped using vmware a couple of years ago,
virtualbox does not have this problem.

I came across Bug #941200 which is marked as a duplicate of this bug,
however I do not experience a 'freeze' when I type to locate an app,
instead all windows lose their title bar making it impossible to
move/resize the app but the apps continue to work.

Tried the fix and now it does detect the fact that I'm inserting a card,
but it returns an error:

I've run into this login loop on my z61m Thinkpad with ATI Radeon card.
The workaround by logging into tty, stopping gdm and then using startx gets me
into X
After creating a new user and restarting gdm, I
Pressing Enter after scanning works for me in X/gdm, this is not required when
on tty console :-)
Would've been nice to have a hint that this is required if this is intended
behavior, if it isn't, to have it revert to the previous behavior.
(upgraded from 64 bit Karmic to Lucid)
