I get same result:
I had to use the generic driver because the NVIDIA one caused the system to
hang on boot. This causes problems in Firefox where the browser shows a
pixilated section of the screen. And Chromium is not stable. How do I monitor
for when NVIDIA will fix this.

Switched to sudo apt install xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
and it boots no problem.

PS Computer does start when I say start in recovery mode.

Just upgraded to Ubuntu 20 from 18. After splash screen cursor blinks
and nothing happens. So boot into recovery mode. From what I read on
stackoverflow etc this is related to Nvidia driver.
