Scratch my last comment #136. After I added myself to group audio, sound
works fine on Lucid.

In the Power Management tab of System Settings I configure one of the
profiles (i.e., Powersave) to disable desktop effects, if active. Yet,
when I switch to this profile (i.e., when unplugging AC adapter),
desktop effects remain active and compositing is disabled.

I get the same error messages "[drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid
framebuffer id" in dmesg, but instead of crashing kdm doesn't let me
login. If I try to login through kdm, it logs me out right away, and I
get the following in my Xorg.log simultaneously with dmesg errors:
Xorg.log:(EE) intel(0):
Spoke too soon. I did upgrade from Karmic to Lucid, and the problem is
back in full glory. Same relevant info from /proc/asound, dmesg, lspci
as noted above.

Upgraded to Ubuntu Lucid, this bug no longer applies; update-grub runs
fine. If you got your btrfs root partition on top of crypto, bug #551055
still applies.

Applies to Lucid, too. Here's the patch for Lucid, apply as described in
comment #3. In Lucid bug #450260 no longer affects us, so don't worry
about update-grub stuff in comment #4.

If your btrfs root partition is on top of any crypto devices, you'll be
also affected by bug #551055. I posted a procedure for Ubuntu Karmic in
comment 4 there, involving instructions from both threads. It restores
full automagic functionality both for update-grub and update-initramfs.

Alright, I worked through the odds and ends, and got the automagic for
initrd and grub working. I have a btrfs root partition on top of lvm,
itself on top of dm-crypt device, itself on top of raid. If your config
similarly involves btrfs root partition on top of crypto, this is what
you need to do
Vincent, here's the gutschke's patch adapted for Ubuntu Karmic. Normally
you'd install it by saving it to /tmp and running the following from the
shell:
cd /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top
sudo patch -p1 < /tmp/cryptsetup.ubuntu_karmic.diff
sudo update-initramfs -c -k all

PÄ“teris, thanks! Your advice worked, I booted the Lucid daily build you
suggested, and voila, audio works. Guess I'll wait for Lucid release, or
may build kernel 2.6.32 for Karmic (commit
f0a221ef47df3cdde2123fe75ce3b61bb7df656d looks relevant).
Btw, per lspci output, my audio device is:

mmbossoni - I ran into the same problem as you. The attached patch fixes
it. Save it to /tmp and run the following in the shell:
cd /usr/share/pyshared/blueman
sudo patch -p1 < /tmp/blueman121.on_sdp_changed.patch
Voila!
** Patch added: "Doesn't barf on unsuccessful property changes anymore"
Bingo, I've been affected also (cost me some gray hair). I auto-upgraded
from edgy to feisty and am running into this exact problem. It's present
in Samba version 3.0.24-2ubuntu1.1. Commenting out line "msdfs proxy =
no" resolves the issue.
