Could you please provide more information ? What does running jsymphonic
directly from a terminal tells you ?

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. Funny convention, by the way.
I can modify java-wrappers to handle that automatically (ie the
conversion from http_proxy to the appropriate java command-line
options).

Have you tried using an UPPERCASE environment variable HTTP_PROXY ? It's
normal that the lowercase one does not work.

Here is the debdiff I've used for upload to Debian stable security.
Adapting to Ubuntu is just a matter of changing the changelog; patches
should apply cleanly to all versions of pmount I know of.

Hmmm...
I sincerly suggest that you read the manual page: mounting is only
authorized in the /media subdirectory, for security reasons. This will
never change. If you must have a another mounting point, go ahead with
sudo mount.

I guess you have SYSFS_DEPRECATED=n (or something of this spirit) in
your kernel configuration ? If that is the case, the bug is known, and
will not be fixed before a while. The whole problem is that basically
libsysfs should not be used, but pmount was initially written using it.
The switch is on
This works perfectly well in Debian. Please revert the changes
introduced by 0.7.4.dfsg-1ubuntu1 and it will work again.
And, please, pretty please, *test* the program before uploading a new
version !

sysfs is deprecated, see in Documentation/sysfs-rules.txt:

It makes assumptions about sysfs which are not true. Its API does not
offer any abstraction, it exposes all the kernel driver-core

As of version 0.9.16, pmount-hal doesn't read settings from hal yet, but

I dont know how you are mounting exactly your drives, but if you use
pmount directly, you might be interested in the -e option, that does
exactly this, such as in, say,
pmount -e /dev/sda1 my_nice_drive_label
I don't know if that would be a good idea to systematically change the
default behaviour

Just for information, you need to umount (or pumount) removable devices
before unplugging them - if you fail to do so, you leave your drive in
an unspecified state. This is most probably the cause of the problem you
are describing here. There is nothing pmount could help you with here.
