My use case is exactly like David Sommen's, I too often play movies (using
Totem) on my TV while still surfing the internet or other stuff on my primary
monitor. I don't see why unity should be allowed to br
All I can add is that I still have this problem in Jaunty and I am up to
date on updates from the kubuntu-ppa backports.
Upon restart knetworkmanager works like a charm.

I can confirm the problems with the jaunty packages from the openoffice
ppa. The file dialog works, but automatic extensions aren't working and
the checkboxes are all clipped, both in the toolbars as in the options
menu.

Just did a fresh install of jaunty (after removing all the kde settings

anything. (I checked, it is not currently installed)

Since kde 4.2 came out I've been using kubuntu (again, switched to gnome about
18 months back) and there are no recording problemens here, it all basically
works out of the box, even though pulseaudio is still installed because it's
somehow needed to get sound working with flash movies in firefo
Same problem in Kubuntu Jaunty beta with the Dutch languagepack,
although all the locales are set to dutch I still have an English system
settings menu and various other bits that somehow still show up in
English.

Confirming it as well, quite annoying since I had just gotten used to using a
shortcut to open the kicker menu and then starting programs by typing their
names. I know I can also use krunner for this, but still...
The main issue I have with it is that when I click outside the kicker menu (ie

I have removed (k)packagekit from my jaunty computer and have just now seen a
situation that would have otherwise resulted in the synaptic error message
(slow loading of some repositories) pass without error whatsoever.
Therefore I'm going to leave (k)packagekit uninstalled and see what happens.
I've also had this error and have reported it here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/synaptic/+bug/304792
which seems to be a duplicate of this bug.
Running kubuntu jaunty beta with both synaptic and kpackagekit installed.
Restarting synaptic seems to fix the issue for me.

I am getting this error on the Kubuntu Jaunty beta, with packagekit installed.
I've noticed that it occurs only when downloading the package information from
the various repositories takes a long time.
While downloading that information the update manager usually comes up with a

I agree with talent03, Marcus' solution is a workaround and not an
actual fix, this bug should not be closed.

Marcus' solution worked for me as well on a m1330 on hardy x86_64.
Thanks a lot Marcus! I do hope that the problem will be fixed out of the
box when jaunty arrives, but at least now I can use skype again without
resorting to external microphones.

I'm afraid it's anything but fine in hardy. I first experienced this
problem in hardy and it continues on in intrepid, without any fix
whatsoever. I'm going to have to agree with jdeslip here and request a

I must admit this is just about the only hardware issue I'm having with this
laptop, but I did choose to go with the intel graphics and the intel wireless
card (the 4965AGN) as they are generally compatible with linux. I've been able
to solve my problem by using an external mic under Hardy, but
I was kinda hoping that intrepid would fix this problem, but apparently
not, a real shame.

I can subscribe to this, digital is all the way, I've been fiddling with
a lot of settings and I can get the microphone to work, but it's just
too soft, even if I scream it barely moves the pulseaudio volume meter
(capture). I could really use that 20db boost here somehow.
