After fighting to find a version of gpointing-device-settings that does
not quit with a "Segmentation Fault" error, I find that ticking
"Disable Tapping" does not do anything as tapping the touchpad is still
enabled.

package to my system?". Don't expect to get answers on questions you did
not ask.
PS: I have no idea whether it is possible to install latest package on older

I take it you are expecting them to know that a package for next release
(that is still in development, as you well know) is okay to be installed
on their system? And how on earth would they get to learn this, when all
they might know is that gpointing-d
Well since the page you refer to lists gpointing-device-settings for
Maverick Meerkat (current stable release) version as 1.5.1-2, then yes.
Version 1.5.1-3 is NOT referred to. Neither is it included in any
current updates available for download.

Trying to install simple-scan 2.32.0.1 on Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 32 bit.
Running ./configure results in "No package 'zlib' found" even though the
zlib package is installed.

7003 laptop with an Atheros AR2413 wifi card connecting via BT Voyager
2110 wireless router. Using either Ubuntu Karmic or Lucid Beta. Previous
