Ok, I have tried again on the new account but I couldn't reproduce it
again following the steps above. I have done a lot of other system
configuration at the time it had happened to me, it might be tricky to
get to this state again.

I would not be worried about this message. I had issues to configure my
email account correctly (access to Office365 via EWS) but eventually I
succeeded to set it up. I created the new online account and I closed
the control center. Then it worked in my Evolution client. Later the
same day I tried

gnome-control-center doesn't start. There is no crash, core dump, etc.
This bit in syslog (/var/log/syslog) gives us some information:
gnome-control-c[2962]: invalid unclassed pointer in cast to 'GtkWindow'
gnome-control-c[2962]: gtk_window_present_with_time: assertion 'GTK_
The disks under VMD controller are visible in the installer, it is
possible to install the system, however vmd.ko is not added to initrd so
the system cannot boot.

Yes, I tested it today with artful.
It works fine for Ubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark) Daily Build (vmd.ko
present)
It doesn't work for Ubuntu Server 17.10 (Artful Aardvark) Daily Build
(no vmd.ko). I see it has a kernel 4.12.0-11-generic. Does text
installer come with a different kernel?

/lib/udev/rules.d/63-md-raid-array.rules
/lib/udev/rules.d/64-md-raid-assembly.rules
There is a wrong path to mdadm which contains "BINDIR" instead of
"/sbin". The same rule files in the installed system are fine.
