Recently I upgraded to 9.10 and then 10.04. Haven't seen a repeat.

I was having the same problem with my Cannon PowerShot A540. What
DaveMcCollum said on 2007-04-07, changing the BUS!="usb*"... line to
SUBSYSTEM!="usb_device"... seems to have fixed it.
