This is still an issue on Ubuntu 24.04.1.
This seems like an easy fix, and has been around for 4 years now. Pretty
bad user experience.

* Login with a user on desktop
* Select switch user, and login as second user
* Switch user again, and return to original user
At this point, text and icons in the menub
