I have the same problem with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. After installation Ubuntu, everything was fine. I restarted computer and things were still ok until the moment when I logged in. The unity became extremely slow. I unplugged a monitor, it went back to normal speed. I waited for a while (more than 10s),
