BassKozz, what you described sounds like this bug. It has been fixed in
Gnome 2.24 which was released a few days ago and will be in the next
Ubuntu release (8.10?).

I'm not sure that this is actually the same as bug #224845 (aka bug
#229107) - those reports talk about the window jumping back to the
leftmost monitor, whereas I think this might be VLC just always drawing
to the first display and not a problem with the window manager.

The configuration is generated automatically by the usplash package so
it would be good if usplash would try to find out if there is a vga=
option and determine the resolution to use from that, overriding what it

Do you have a vga= option on your kernel boot line (run `grep vga=
/boot/grub/menu.lst`)? If so, then it is probably the same as bug

On Debian, after installing the 2.6.24 kernel on my iBook G4, the usplash boot
screen shows up fine.
On 2.6.22 I never got a splash screen at all.
So perhaps it is OK to consider this fixed in 2.6.24. (OTOH maybe there
are too many uncontrolled variables on my system.)

It looks like adding -fno-stack-protector to the CFLAGS in debian/rules

solves it, I'll add that option and upload a new version.

This would solve bug 109157 which would be fixed by any package rebuild.
As the changes in -3 are all quite trivial I think there is no harm in
pulling in the new version.
