I should have mentioned, I've been using this same laptop and same USB
devices starting with Ubuntu 8.10, then an update via Update Manager to
9.04. The system was installed Oct '08. This is the 1st time this
problem has occurred.

Re: Overheating - Unlikely. This has happened after it's been up for as
long as several days, or as short as a few minutes after a restart, when
the system had been powered down. It's a HP laptop with nVidia GPU.
Re: Micro-cut - This is a laptop. Battery would have taken over for
power loss.

I happened to catch it in the act, finally.. and there's nothing to give a hint
to the cause of the problem.
The system simply shuts off, as instantly as flipping off a lamp switch.

This issue is completely random, and I haven't noticed anything in any
log to tie it into. I have not discovered any reported issues that
mirror this problem.
After upgrading from 8.10 to 9.04, system has simply powered off at
completely random intervals, during inactivity.

Twinview originally gave me X-config problems (nVidia w/laptop + external
monitor) when I 1st installed, and Xinerama provided a better solution.
