yes it is a bug, ubuntu devels forgot to link against gfortran. A
trivial workaround would be to add -lgfortran to your link flags.

I am the debian maintainer. However, in debian not even essential
packages like numpy exist for python2.6 yet. So there is no way for me
to fix this as of yet in the debian package. If it is really only a
site-packages / dist-packages change, things should be easy though just
override PYDIR to poin
