The workaround posted by cprise on 2008-07-17 works for me. But I need
to reboot rather than only restart kdm to let it take effect. Thanks.

This happens in Kate 3.5.6 that can be used for Ubuntu Feisty and Edgy.
To reproduce the problem:

3) goto "Indentation". Auto indentation does not work no
I have the same problem in Edgy. I used the method provided by Sven

Attached is the gdb backtrace info. If gdb is running, gedit will be

Yes. Both of my Dapper systems are up-to-date, too. If gedit does not
crash at the first time, just repeat steps from 4 to 7. Thank you, Aron.
The backtrace is as follows:
Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/gedit'
(no debugging symbols found)

I updated my KDE to 3.5.5. This problem is solved. Thanks, Yuriy.

This bug was reported in Bug # 344826 by another user in gedit v2.14.3
and was marked as fixed. But it is still there in a fully patched Ubuntu
dapper drake with gedit v2.14.4. I tried it in ubuntu dapper desktop

upstream. Ple
I am using gedit version 2.14.4 in ubuntu 6.06.1 amd64 fully patched.

I am using dapper. I installed ubuntu (with Gnome) first. Then I
installed KDE seperately (I'm not sure this will make any difference)
by using
apt-get install kde-desktop
Then whenever I set up the menu as in the description, Kate is frozen.
Thanks,
Shushan
