After studying php-fpm architecture, I think the best handling is to
support php7 as php7-fpm. Instead of using mod_php, Apache will have to
connect to php7 through mod_proxy_fcgi. With proper setting, one can
have both php5-fpm and php7-fpm run in parallel. The Apache server can
then support both
Tried using the proposed gnome-settings-daemon package for a few days.
The input method switch problem didn't appear at all.
I think it's safe to say that it fixed this bug.
Hope I can see the proposed package on the main repository soon.

Thanks Mathew. I've just installed the proposed gnome-settings-daemon.
The IM switching seems to be smoother. But since the problem came on-
and-off randomly, it's hard to tell if it is really fixed unless I try
it a few days. I'll get back to this a few days later.

This is certainly not my case.
1. The motherboard has no EFI mode at all. The only "option" is Legacy
mode (BIOS), which I cannot select to enable or disable.
2. There is no selection that says "boot from Ubuntu". I've select to
boot from the USB stick I use.
In other word, the installer mistook

I can only start the installer by blindly pressing "enter" twice.
