Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: update-manager
message during upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 said that it failed to upgrade the
package-manager and the upgrade was aborted. When I reboot grub shows it is
booting 8.10. Boot fails and drops into shell saying it did not find the boot
disk.
