Why did you change this bug to say that it affects gnome-applets?
As far as I can tell, it's a nautilus problem, because the DVD drive also does
not appear in nautilus' places bar/menu.

The webinterface didn't detect it automatically, but after adding it

When no CD or DVD is in either of my drives, both do not show up in the places
menu and in the mount applet -> fine.
When a CD is in the CD or DVD drive, the corresponding drive does show up in
