Installing Ubuntu 11.10 from USB, crashed after pulling out boot disk

The BIOS of the computer I was installing Ubuntu 11.10 does not allow
booting from USB flash drives. I inserted a boot disk to enable the live
USB drive to boot and then began installing Ubuntu. Near the end of the
installation, I popped the disk out and the installer crashed.
Also, fails with/without unity. Tested using Classic mode and Classic
(no effects).

I have a Toshiba laptop with the same issue. Worked with Maverick,
liveCD and upgrade both fail.

Personally, this is the second best solution, but a solution I can live
with.
And when trying to promote Ubuntu to others, at least I can say it is
like using a Mac, in this regard. I am hoping the upcoming changes which
make this necessary are worth it. I was waiting for LTS to give
