Reboot successful. At least in my case, the error was caused by not
enough space in my /boot partition. update-manager should check for
space in all the partitions it will write to, not just /.

After closing the update-manager, I attempted to run:
sudo apt-get purge linux-image-2.6.38-11-generic
sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.38-11-generic
This gave me a lengthy error that suggested there was not enough space
to install. It turns out my /boot partition was full, so I removed some
I just got this same error running dist-upgrade from Kubuntu 10.10 x64
to 11.04, except with linux-image-2.6.38-11-generic.

As suggested by the update-manager, here is the contents of my /var/log
/dist-upgrade. The update-manager says my system may be in an unusable
state upon reboot, so I'm about to find out if that's true.
