The common factor seems to be heavy file i/o over a 10gbps link.
Didn't encounter this on 20.04, before the upgrade.

Running Ubuntu 11.10 (upgraded from 11.04) 64-bit on Intel Core i7 2600
(SandyBridge). I am not using the integrated graphics but using ATI
Radeon HD 5450. Random freezes occurring while trying to unlock from

Same here. Deleting ~/.gtkrc-2.0 solved the problem.
