I seem to have the same problem listed here, except the hang is a hard
crash. the screen does not go blank, but freezes with the gnome desktop
and mouse cursor still on but unmovable. ctrl-alt-backspace and ctrl-
alt-f# do not work. I can SSH in after the crash, but nothing I do
seems to be able

It was caused by a custom build libdrm that I had forgotten I had
installed. I don't know how to unpost this bug but i have resolved my
own issue, sorry for wasting your time.
