To re-capitulate:
If (on Arch) you uninstall ONLY the current k3b 1.68.0~alpha3-0ubuntu1 package
(that is the "kde 4.x" version) and then install the old k3b 1.0.5.
Would seem to indicate that the problem is in the backends.
GnomeBaker, K3b, and Brasero all fail. Not sure what the trace files in
the previous post are, but in both cases wodim seems to generate an
error.

Again, happens consistently on boot when running Nvidia 190.42 (or a
185 series) driver. I have now tried Nviida 195.22 beta driver and
after multiple boots have never seen it occur. (Not saying that it is
definitely an Nvidia driver issue...for example could be a race and
using the newer drive
I am not sure of this, but I believe this might be an Nvidia driver
issue. I first saw this happen when using ARCH when they had updated to
the 185 series drivers and saw it continue in the 190 series drivers.
One can work around the problem if after start up( or login to gnome)
one switches to V
