Just a comment about the "regression-release" tag... This bug seems to
affect Compiz users for years, I don't think it is a regression in any
recent release. I have the problem since I'm using compiz (with
OpenOffice.org and now with LibreOffice).

On Ubuntu 9.10, Compiz 1:0.8.4-0ubuntu2.
Any keyboard shortcut using the (left) Alt key don't work.
For example Alt-Tab works in Metacity, and doesn't work in Compiz. However,
it's not like it isn't pressed : Alt-Tab doesn't act like Tab alone.
