Thanks for that link. I followed that and I can now report that audio is
working through my audio out jack port, but still not through the
internal speaker. That's major progress though, so at worst I can plug
in some external speakers. Would be good to have the internal speaker
working though.

Have tried updating to latest patches, googling forums. No audio through
speaker port or PC speaker, used alsamix to turn all streams up to
maximum volume and ensured that nothing is muted.
